Smoke Machine Podcast 022 Peter Van Hoesen

Simply powerful Techno by Peter Van Hoesen

‘Peter Van Hoesen [Time To Express] Belgium

When it comes down to combining the best of many musical worlds, Peter Van Hoesen can say he’s been doing it for a while now. Deeply rooted in the Brussels electronic music scene as DJ and producer since 1993, he’s considered by many as a man with multiple musical talents: from straight-up dancefloor jackin’ techno to advanced abstract electronica. His music has been released on his own labels Time To Express and Foton as well as through Exone, Komisch, Lan Muzic, Curle, Meakusma and Morse. He’s active as a DJ, producer, sound designer and composer for contemporary dance and theatre. Peter currently lives in Berlin.’

From 13:00 to 22:00

@ Mr Wong
Rue de la Vierge Noire 12
1000 Brussels

(http://fuzz-mag.be/evenement/technoon-presents-sigha-peter-van-hoesen)

‘After more than 4 years of doing mixes deciding how to finish should have been difficult, but somehow the answer presented itself in a very easy and natural manner. The two artists that have most strongly shaped and defined MNML SSGS have been Donato Dozzy and Peter Van Hoesen. It is fitting that Donato opened our fnl series, and now with Peter we close our mixes.’

Here it is. I’ve been asked to provide some words to go along with it. Let me see. There are so many things to write about, as the connection with my ssg friends over in Japan and Australia is a multi-layered one. I could write about Japan in the aftermath of the Tohoku quake. I could write about courage, stamina and the will to persevere and to party on in the face of adversity. I could write about being supported in a heartfelt way. I could write about opinions and how you can disagree and enjoy the disagreement. I could write about a place up in the mountains. I could write about witnessing people developing a particular taste and share it with others. I could write about music, tying us all together, without end. But let’s not. All I want to say is that May 3rd 2011 was a very special night for many reasons, linked to a unique group of people. It is a pleasure to present this mix to my friends from mnml ssgs and their loyal readership. Most of all I dedicate this mix to the people who were there at Unit, that special night. Let’s do it again, soon.

Oh ja mnml ssgs staat voor minimal sausages

So long and thanks for all the fish!

KANGDING RAY – LIVE – Raster-Noton

Reflecting his wide musical background, and a particular way of merging beats and atmospheric soundscapes into slowly evolving compositions. Berlin resident David LeTerrier combines machines with real instruments in a subtle and rythmic suite, integrating noises, walls of distortion, massive bass lines, voices and field recordings, blending techno grooves with dark textures, always on the edge between experimental music and club culture…

SENDAI – Peter Van Hoesen & Yves De Mey – A/V LIVE PERFORMANCE – Time To Express

Sendai is the collaborative project by Yves De Mey and Peter Van Hoesen. Both artists are longtime friends and share a deep passion for exploring the outer limits of the electronic music spectrum. Sendai combines De Mey’s skilful extraction of deep and dynamic sounds from his modular synthesizer system with Van Hoesen’s keen sense of digital composition and sound design. After two 12″ releases for Time To Express in 2009 the duo took some time out to reflect on their joint musical path. The result is ‘Geotope’, a no-compromise experimental album that sees the duo moving away from the dancefloor into an altogether more varied and daring sonic domain. The album shows a clear sensibility for stripping things down to their bare essentials. It is the result of a road travelled together without any compromise, combining both artists’ influences into a dynamic, ever-evolving sonic environment. The album will be released early 2012 on Time To Express.

Sendai’s audiovisual live performance for Club Transmediale last February marked the premiere of the duo’s new live set.
